Joyce's T-shirt Quilt & Quilted Tote

For Joyce, I made a T-quilt AND a quilted tote.  The shirts used were those of her and her brothers and sisters and would be a Christmas gift for her mother.
Here is the completed quilt top
 And the completed QUILT!
Closeup of the quilt - I framed the shirt that said "world's greatest mom" so it would stand out.
I used the red and yellow matching shirts for the tote bag.  I used a light blue cotton fabric for the inside.

Bridget's Baby Clothes Quilt

I just love the way this one turned out!  Bridget is a sweet local girl who let me make her a T-quilt out of her son's baby clothes.   Look at all of the adorable faux tie onesies!!!   She had such super cute little outfits and it made this quilt just perfect.
Here are all of her items tentatively laid out before graphing.
Here is her finished quilt!

I embroidered her son's name in a center block.  I picked this font randomly but I think it turned out so good - I'll definitely be using this one again!

Ang's Quilt

I was SO happy and excited to get to make a quilt for my dear friend Ang!  The theme of her shirts was all of the places she has worked.  There were many small pieces and all of the items were so coloful, this really didn't take much work from me! This quilt MADE itself ;c)  I love the puzzle look of how her quilt turned out. There are so many small pieces and little fun logos that give her quilt so much interest and fun!

Here is Ang's quilt laid out before graphing.

And here are some photos of her finished quilt!

The weather actually cooperated for me on this day ;c)

 Thank you so much Ang!!!

T-shirt Quilt

Finished T-shirt quilt!!!
This quilt was made for a man that actually graduated with my Mom and Dad.  He has started several fundraisers and charities in our local area.  He was a very well-respected and loved man of the community.  He passed away a few years back, but his memory lives on through his good deeds.
"Mator" is his nickname - and his sister Polly collected the shirts and had this quilt created as a gift.

This quilt was pretty big -  about a Double/Full size.  But with the number of shirts I had, I could have made 4 king size quilts!!!  LOL

Here's a closeup of the center of the quilt

I accidentally deleted most of the photos of these quilts before blogging them.  But I DID find these few photos from facebook and flickr!

I really really enjoy making these quilts out of baby clothes.   Like T-shirt quilts, they are similar to putting together a jigsaw puzzle.  I lay out all the pieces on the floor, fuse the pieces, cut, and then fill in the gaps with alternating colors from the clothes.   This is the 3rd and 4th quilt I have made using baby clothes.   For these, I tried using more of the details from the clothing.  You can see in the closeups that I kept some of the stuffed toys in tact.   I also tried to keep embroidered details, buttons, pockets, etc.,  -  It's much more difficult doing it this way and most of the stuff has to be done by hand.  But I DO think it's worth it in the end.

I can use onesies, bibs, shirts, pants, jerseys soft hats, blankets and small stuffed toys.  And don't worry about holes or stains because before anything goes into the quilt, it's backed with stabilizer, and the finished quilt is quilted thoroughly so stains are hidden (or cut around.)

Grace's Quilt

**To order your own custom baby clothes quilt - please go to my facebook page for pricing and info**

This quilt is made up of the clothing worn in the first couple years of Grace's life.  Her mom Melanie and I went to school together and we sang in Show Choir together.
This is the 2nd quilt made of baby clothes I have ever made. The FIRST one, (Brady's Baby Quilt) was made entirely of BOYS clothing and blankets.  The boys clothing was a bit easier, since it didn't have as many small parts ;c) I wanted to conserve as many as the little logos and embellishments from these clothes as I could. This meant that I had to take the seam ripper and remove stuff, and then REapply it on the block before sewing it into the quilt.
I still enjoyed every minute of this quilt!!  T-shirt quilts are my favorite because they are like a puzzle.  So when I get a chance to make these quilts out of baby clothes, the puzzle pieces are SMALLER, and more challenging/FUN.

This is sort my screwed-up process of making a quilt.  First, I lay all of the pieces down, folded, as they would appear in the quilt.  Then I go in with a ruler and graph them out on graph paper and label each block.
this is all the pieces, fused and cut, and the graph paper. . ready for the machine!!!
 finished TOP!
 Pretty zig-zag backing!
awww, little quilt bundle of happiness!!!
Finished quilt - on a sunny, albeit very muddy, cold day ;c)

Rachel's Queen-sized T-Quilt - Christmas Gift from Mom

I absolutely LOVE the way this T-quilt turned out!  I was given about 100 shirt sides (front and backs) to use in this quilt.  I had her narrow them down to about half that much LOL and I STILL didn't think I would be able to fit them all in!  Well,we did it.  And since all the shirt logos are all sorta "smushed" together, it really gives the quilt a fun look!
Another reason this quilt looks so good is because it is so colorful.  There is only so much a quilter can do when you only have black/white/grey shirts to work with ya know?  ;c)  The T-shirts themselves are the main source of color.  that's why I always ask people to include at least ONE tie-dye.  Just one tie-dyed shirt can be spread out throughout the whole quilt and provides SOO much color!
Here's the graph I used for this quilt.  Very busy!  Very fun!!  an OCD person's dream come true!  <3 nbsp="" p="">

Brady's Baby Clothing Quilt & Sammy's Baby Quilt

I can make your own custom baby clothes quilt-
**See my facebook page for ordering and pricing information**

Two finished for the last few weeks.  I wanted to share them both with you guys here.
First, I finally got the opportunity to make a quilt out of baby clothes!  There was a mixture of knits, wovens, and fleece.   AND, since the clothes were so small, it was especially difficult to capture the WHOLE shirt logo without cutting into the arm seams.   BUT, we did it, and I think it turned out awesome!

That's MOM (Beth) on the left, with her son Brady. . and that's me on the right.  We're in Jacqueline's back yard.. .she is Brady's grandmother (Beth's Mom.)  Her back yard is perfect for photos!!
Here's a photo of the back of the quilt, I used leftover woven fabric from Brady's little dress shirts, on the back.  Strip pieced them, and then added them in between two layers of Xtra wide quilt fabric!
And I just wanted to share with you my graph for this quilt.  As I've said before, every SINGLE quilt, for me, starts with a graph.  Graphing out my quilts is especially important for T-shirt quilts. I measure each block, then write in a brief (and I mean REALLLLY brief) description of each shirt inside the block.   Since we were doing BABY shirts, these blocks were especially SMALL. . making it especially CHALLENGING!   I thought this graph was really funny, and I'm glad noone else has to decipher it but me! LOL

My next quilt was a quilt for our church choir director Jack.  He recently had a baby boy and named him Sammy.   He told me to make whatever quilt I wanted, but gave me these specs:   Colors- blue and brown, Theme: Traditional.   When he told me this, I immediately thought:  SCRAPPY!!!   So, I went to the trusted QUILTVILLE site to look for a fun pattern to use for scraps.   I have always been drawn to her PLAYING WITH JACKS pattern, and so it was.

I pulled out my 2.5" strips of Browns, Neutrals, and Blues.
Here are all of my "jacks on six" or "double x" blocks finished and pressed!  They don't look like much now do they?  haha
Here is the completed center top
 Top complete with borders!
I REALLLLLY had fun quilting this quilt!!  I just love quilting patchwork !   And surprisingly, I don't get to do it very often!
I stippled in all the neutral areas so that the "Xs" would POP!  Then I went in and did a one-line outline quilt all around the rest of the patches.
I fused Sammy's initials onto the back of the quilt.   I did this after I made the sandwich, and just quilted over them!
I tried something different with the feathers this time around - I quilted my feathers, and then did an echo stitch back down to the starting point.  I really REALLY like the way it looks, and plus, it's easier!  YOu don't have to either make a stop, and then reposition, OR follow your feather vein all the way back down!
I really like this photo of the quilt - it shows off the quilting AND the back.
Thank you hubby for helping me photograph (it's like pulling teeth God-love him!)
We got a little bit of sunshine on the quilt, showing off the feathers!
