"Girly"-themed Quilt for Shauna

This quilt was a gift for a dear sweet customer - She has been toying with this idea for almost a year now, and we nailed down a pattern (after much back and forth) and here is the final result!!
It was fun getting to design an applique quilt from scratch.   Of course I couldn't make it just a normal sashed applique quilt!  I made the blocks "framed" and TILTED.   (gluten for punishment I guess) But doesn't it look great??   Such fun bold colors, and just perfect.
Here are all the fabrics that we chose for this quilt.

 Photos of the finished quilt!

a phtoo of the back -
Here are some closeups of the quilting.
For the white areas I did my version of McTavishing. . . ORRR..  S's and Comets (because I think thats what they look like, and S stand for SHAUNA!)     Shauna is a big fan of chocolate chip cookies, and although a challenge, I found a way to include that next to her name ;c)
I quilted straight lines in the background areas of the blocks, and I left the "frames" empty, because they poofed up and looked cute that way.   For the center black frame, I did a large half feather.  For the colored inner frame, I did a checkerboard.

The appliques incluce a female silhouette, high heel, flowy dress, pearl necklace, lipstick, perfume, purse, diamond ring, iphone, martini glass, and sunglasses.

A WHALE of a baby quilt!

See what I did there?
Tee Hee.
My moms friend and co-worker Shelly is having a baby boy!  She decided a week before her baby shower that she liked the theme of green and navy . . and whales.  I love it too, and [by the way] ever since I completed this quilt, I now see whales on baby clothes everywhere I go!  ;c)
Shelly still has not decided on a name, but that's okay we will add that to the quilt later, no problem.  But thankfully, I was able to at least make a quilt within her range of colors just in time for her baby shower.

I made this quilt similar to the applique baby quilts I have made previously.  I made a Monkey, an Owl, 2 Owls, and one with a puppy.  It's easy because you can take several colors or prints from the nursery, and use those throughout the quilt.

I drew the image on fusible stabilizer, and then once the appliques were fused to the background, I used a raw-edge machine buttonhole stitch to secure.
I did a version of McTing for the large open background area and feathers in the two pieces areas.
I used rick rack in two different shades of blue to give more of a "water" effect.   Also I hand sewed buttons for the whales eyes, and I used small glass beads for the birds eyes.  (I told her that she could easily remove them with a seam ripper if she feels they are too much of a hazard.)

Franki's Baby Quilt

I made this quilt for my friend Franki, who is having a baby next month:  "Mia."
She wanted Pink and Green, so I dug through my pinnk and green scraps.  The piecing for the front and back I kept relatively simple, but I went crazy with the quilting.   my favorite part ;c)

Here is the front and back before sandwiching.

I divided the quilt up in diamonds and wanted a 1/2' puffy line between each quilting motif.  In the above photo I had just finished the trapunto for Mia's name, the pebbling in the 1st section, and half the feathers in the 2nd section.
Here I had just finished all the quilting.

Before trimming and binding.
Closeup of the quilting.

andddd. . front and back finished!

All of the quilting was done with NEW Aurifil polyester longarm thread.  The pastel variegated thread looked perfect against the pink and green fabrics.   . . used in the top AND bobbin.

Jaime's baby Owl Quilt.

https://www.craftsy.com/quilting/patterns/owl-duet/194369

Another Baby? Another Quilt!!!
I told Jaime she couldn't HAVE an owl quilt, because I already made one for Tiffany ;c) BUT, I surprised her, and instead of 1 owl, there's two.   Which is fitting because this is her 2nd baby ;c) So that's her two children Morgan and Jack in OWL form sitting on a branch.

Here's the quilt basted and fused.
Here I used raw-edge applique, and a straight stitch with my darning foot.  I appliqued the pieces first then filled in the background next.
Here's the background all filled in:
And here's the first feather quilted.   I quilted a feather in the colored areas.  The green areas uses a shiny variegated green thread from Gutterman.
The blue area uses a Teal shiny variegated thread by Sulky.
I added the borders right after I fused down the pieces.
Here's a couple closeups of the quilting ;c)

Here's some photos of the back.

NEW Quilt for Sale

I just finished a UFO!! It was the 3rd in a series of Grey study quilts which used a combination of Bright rainbow-colored fabrics as well as grey print fabrics.

To see all the grey study quilts go to www.Facebook.com/KatiesQuiltsandCrafts ~ be sure to "like" me while you're there ;c) OR you can see them on my flickr slideshow on the sidebar to the right ----->

I quilted this quilt VERY densely with an ALL-over pattern that could be sorta described as McTavishing. It's my own little twist on McTAvishing. . should I call it McKatying? LMAO juuustttt kiddding.

Since I used this quilt for practice quilting I'm not charging too much for it on etsy. But it DID take a VERYYY long time to finish. I think I started this quilt. . . hmmm. . . . 6 months ago maybe? I know it was before Christmas last year.
